this weather is reeking havoc on the roads as well. It was a close call earlier today, when a semi and a tanker truck collided on Highway 20, five miles west of Reed’s dairy.
James Vanbeek, truck driver: “Just a bad deal. Bad roads. He was driving too close.”
So close in fact that when This truck was slowing down for a car that was running out of gas…
Vanbeek: “This other truck couldn’t see me or what and plowed into the back of me.”
The truck slid yards down the icy highway…while the tanker carrying what at the time seemed two trailers full of gas toppled over and slid down an embankment. Hazmat teams were called in, just to be safe…
Paul Summers, ISP Trooper: “When those tip over, they should hold but if it’s punctured then we could have a hazmat spill.”

Even though the price of gas has crashed through the $3-a-gallon barrier and looks hellbent on nailing $4 a gallon, and the price of everything from plasma TVs to tuna sushi is going up, America still loves a pickup truck.
Although down 12 percent on 2005, pickup truck sales seemed to be running at close to 2006 levels. That still means some 230,000 Americans drove a brand-new pickup off the dealer’s lot every month last year. To put it another way, pickup trucks alone accounted for one in every five new vehicles sold across the U.S. That’s big business, especially when you consider the entire pickup market is composed of fewer than 20 nameplates, compared with well over 200 for the cars and SUVs that make up the other two thirds.

A GEELONG West truck driver walked away unharmed after the tip truck he was driving overturned yesterday.
Police said the 38-year-old male was travelling east along Portarlington Rd in Moolap about 12.35pm when the truck left the road.
Senior Constable Darren Mighall, of Geelong police, said an entire load of sand spilled from two trailers.
No other vehicles were in the path of the oncoming trailer.
The driver suffered a sore leg but did not require an ambulance, he said.
Sen-Constable Mighall said the investigation would continue, but speed or alcohol were not involved in the accident. The clean-up operation lasted well into the afternoon, with the vehicle towed away.

A man from Missouri died Monday after a crash between two tractor-trailers near Strathroy, Ont.
Provincial police say Thomas Hart, 52, was driving eastbound on Highway 402 east of Strathroy at around 3 a.m. when he was rear-ended by a tractor-trailer carrying two brothers from Michigan.
Hart didn’t suffer any noticeable injuries but collapsed two hours later and was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The driver of the second truck, Bradley Schultetus, 26, was uninjured.
His brother, Christopher Schultetus, 27, was in the sleeping berth at the time of the collision and was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The design of the straight-frame box van trailers, which has evolved and been refined in conjunction with the Argos Engineering team, reflects the operational requirements, in regard to strength, longevity and reliability, whilst also incorporating increasing health and safety requirements.
Having supplied trailers to Argos for 15 years, Cartwright wanted to make sure the specifications of the latest order exceeded the customer’s requirements as achieved on the previous year’s build.
The new trailers vary between 13.6 metres and 7.3 metres in length. A hundred of which feature Dhollandia retractable tail lifts, with the remainder fitted with Ratcliff hydraulic closure column lifts.
Other features include some trailers fitted with command steer axles, tinted blue GRP roof skins (to keep internal temperatures down), right-angled aluminium kick strips, GRP grit-impregnated floors, shutter doors with stainless steel rear frames, compression buffers, BPW drum brakes and, on some trailers, hydraulic landing legs.

Spencer Morrison was a stickler for safety. The middle-school teacher had precious cargo to protect — his 4-year-old triplets, Ethan, Garret and Alaina. Only the best minivan and top-of-the-line car seats would do.
None of that mattered when a trailer — a 3-ton wood-chipper on wheels — broke loose from a truck and careened into oncoming traffic like an unguided missile on April 13, 2006.

The growth of Ground Force Manufacturing LLC, a Post Falls company that converts large truck chassis into giant support vehicles for even bigger mining vehicles, is mirroring that of fast-growing regions of the world that are starved for commodities.
The company, which currently contracts with 25 additional workers because it’s struggling to find full-time workers, expects to break ground soon on another manufacturing facility that will add 25,000 square feet of space to the 50,000 square feet it currently occupies at its six-building, 6-acre complex along east Seltice Way, owner Ron Nilson says. That project, which will take six months to complete, will provide only a temporary solution to the company’s growing needs. It’s still looking to buy land nearby on which to build a 100,000-square-foot facility within the next three years, he says.

If you a vehicle owner or in any way related to the transport industry, then you must be familiar with the term of trailers and also its usage. Depending upon the usage and requirement, you can choose from various types of trailers, such as open-air trailers or enclosed trailers.
Open trailers are also known as car haulers as they are used to transport cars from one place to another location. Apart from it, they can also be utilized to haul farm tractors, ATVs, motorcycles, lawn equipments and materials that have to be dumped. On the other hand, concessions, general cargo, miscellaneous equipments, ATVs, cars, motorcycles and snowmobiles are hauled by using enclosed trailers.
Enclosed haulers are in a way better than open haulers as they provide protection against hazards, such as UV light damage, theft, vandalism, bad weather and other security and road hazards.

The Deker Trailer Group has delivered a major order for ten trailers to logistics company Pall-Ex to support the company’s expansion programme.
The order, Deker’s largest single order to date, includes a mixture of the company’s popular double deck Ecodeck fuel saver trailers and a number of straightframes, including two with tail-lift. All trailers will be supplied in the distinctive Pall-Ex livery.
This is the second order from Pall-Ex this year and Deker also supplies a number of Pall-Ex’s network members, bringing the total in the network to in excess of 40 trailers including over 20 Ecodecks. The Ecodeck trailers combine a practical, double deck internal layout with the aerodynamically designed sloping roof that has noticeably improved fuel consumption (at least 12% savings have been recorded by some customers).
This order also included ten Renault Premium Curtainside Rigids, three Renault Magnums and a Renault Premium tractor unit, all in the Pallex Logistics branding, supplied by the Allports Truck Centre Group.

A Norfolk, Va. man was issued several traffic citations by both Maryland and Delaware officials this week after crashing the tractor-trailer he was driving on Route 113 near the state line on Monday morning.
A Worcester County Sheriff’s Deputy on Monday morning observed a tractor-trailer northbound on Route 113 near Route 589 traveling at an estimated 80 mph in a 55 mph zone. The deputy attempted to stop the vehicle as it approached the Maryland-Delaware line when the driver, later identified as Renaldo D. Long, of Norfolk, lost control of the tractor-trailer, struck a sign in the median and overturned before coming to rest in Delaware.
No injuries were reported in the accident. The Worcester County deputy issued several traffic citations including speeding and reckless driving while Selbyville, Del. police charged Long with driving under the influence of alcohol.
It was not reported what the truck was carrying, but later Monday morning, a hazardous material truck was seen in the area apparently performing some mitigation.
