Like all quality products, ATVs come at a high price. Therefore, people have to make a proper decision about what kind of ATV they want, and which one fits their needs perfectly, before they go on to buy one. Used ATVs are a perfect way of finding out what exactly one wants from an ATV, and whether it is possible to get it.
One can always buy a used ATV and try it for a week or so, until they get a proper idea of which ATV will fit their needs properly.
They are also the best option for child drivers. As the parents are the ones who have to really judge whether their children are ready to drive an ATV, it is preferred that they opt for a used ATV for their child, and have them try it out for a while.
Used ATVs are good for inexperienced and amateur drivers. Even if a used ATV is involved in an accident while being driven by an inexperienced driver, the cost of damages will be very low, as compared to a brand-new ATV.
One should also understand that a used ATV has little or no resale value, and the only place a used ATV will have, once the owners have a brand-new ATV, is the scrap or the garage.
The best way to buy a used ATV is to have a look in your own neighborhood and among your friends. There will be people who wish to upgrade from their previous ATVs, or are selling their ATVs for various other reasons.
There are no set yardsticks for buying a used ATV. The quality of a used ATV depends heavily on the previous user and the job it was used for. It is always suggested to take along a professional mechanic for a test ride before buying any used vehicle. The various parts which form the heart of the machine, like the engine and brakes, should be thoroughly checked.
There are various websites where one can buy ATVs online. Some websites even have ATVs under warranty. While buying a used ATV, it is always better to buy ATVs from better-known companies like Yamaha ATV, Honda ATV, Suzuki ATV, Polaris ATV and Arctic Cat ATV.

As one of the first ever production all-terrain vehicles, Honda ATVs has a long and high standard history. It all began back in 1967 when a bunch of Honda engineers, led by Osamu Takeuchi, worked long and hard to give the general public a unique recreational vehicle that is not similar in any way to any other vehicles produced at that time. This was how the US90 was manufactured.
Developing the idea for a Honda ATV involved a number of components, wherein the group of engineers considered building a two-, four- and six-wheeled configuration. However, the group decided on a three-wheel ATV by Honda because it was built with the most compatible features to provide the vehicle’s intended function.
The US90 was the first Honda ATV in world. It featured seven horsepower through a dual range, 4-speed gearbox and automatic clutch at around $600 per vehicle. This 1970 model was mainly used by farmers because of its fat tire and capability of riding through sand and snow. However, by the end of 1970s, people started using the earlier Honda ATV models for recreational purposes.
The Popularity Of Honda ATVs
At the start of 1980s, both utility ATV and sports ATV had a major boom in the market. Farmers are still using the utility models by this time. One of the most popular Honda ATV utility models is the 1980 ATC185, which featured 25-inche tires, 5-speed transmission and automatic clutch with a powerful 180cc, 4-stroke engine.
When all-terrain vehicles began to be used in sports, Honda released the 1982 ATC200E (also known as the “Big Red”). It was a powerful vehicle with a 192cc engine and a 4-speed, dual range gearbox that produced more power, compared to its utility model counterpart. This exact model was enhanced with a reverse gear and new drive chain for added durability in 1984.
From 1980s onwards, Honda ATVs are used for racing everywhere from desert roads to frozen lakes all over America. Since Honda has been renowned for its high-performance vehicles that are fit for racing, their ATVs are no different.
Shortly after the success of the three wheeled sports and utility ATV models, Honda as well as many other manufacturers of all-terrain vehicles stopped production of three wheeled ATVs. In its place, they released for production an improved version in four wheels, giving a more powerful engine and better suspension.
Honda ATVs have the reputation of revolutionizing the world of all-terrain vehicles for both utility and sports purposes. Famous models released from Honda include the 1988 FourTrax 300, a four-wheel TRX200, the 1995 Foreman 400 and a dozen more of high-performance vehicles for the off-road world.

Many years ago, when ATVs for sale had only three wheel atvs instead of four wheel atvs, many parents were quite reluctant to let their kids ride on them. But now with 4 wheels and the ever-growing popularity of ATVs, especially among the kids and youths, the ATV manufacturers and dealers have also begun to cater to the demand of ATVs for kids. The ATV market is not just catering to the needs of adult ATV riders anymore, but the needs of the younger ATV riders too. Key in the words “ATV for kids” on the search engines on the internet and you will see lots of websites with news, updates, reviews and ATV models for kids. ATVs these days are no longer dominated by the big boys – they now have to share their ATV passion with the kids too!
If you are an ardent fan of ATV riding, you would know that due to safety reasons, it is not a good idea to let your kids ride on an adult ATV, let alone allow them to sit on it with you while you are riding on it. Therefore, if your kids also want to join in the fun of ATV riding with you, you would be doing them a great favor if you got them their own ATVs instead. Looking for a kids ATV is an easier mission these days.
Getting your kid his or her very own ATV also teaches them to be responsible, as the first lesson that they will learn is that an ATV is not a toy but a machine. They will have to learn how to handle the machine properly so that they don’t get hurt while riding on one. Another lesson that your kids will learn about ATV is how to care for and maintain it so that the machine will last longer. In fact, we believe that kids who love ATV riding take great pride in their own machines and will always make sure that their machines are properly cared for. They will even wash, scrub and polish their ATVs without you having to tell them to!
ATV riding for kids is also a great way for them to get out in the sun and play. Kids today are not spending enough time outside and are always cooped up at home watching television, playing video games or surfing the internet. It’s not that any of these activities are bad for them, but it would be if they spend too much time inside of their home and not getting out of the house for some fresh air. Did you know that ATV riding is also a great way for your kids to burn the calories in their bodies, especially if they are big eaters? Going out and riding on their ATVs will also give the kids an opportunity to appreciate Mother Nature too.
Buying ATVs for kids these days are comparatively affordable – unlike the prices of kids ATVs in the earlier days of the ATV market. Now you can also get a kids ATV for less than $1,500. Wouldn’t you agree that this is a small price to pay for the benefits that you will get out of ATV riding for the kids?

ATV’s were developed for use in agriculture, for hauling equipment and traveling around farm properly. They have since evolved into a hobby for many people and are now even used for racing. People love the excitement that ATV’s provide and the vast array of terrain that ATV’s open up for exploring. ATV’s can provide a lot of enjoyment for riders and be a worthwhile activity. There are many brands available such as honda ATV for sale, Polaris ATV for sale, Yamaha ATV for sale, kawasaki ATV for sale, etc in the market for both adutls as well as childrens.
ATV’s can also be dangerous, for both children and adults. For Adults it is dangerous when thry loose their control over ATVs while riding and for children it is dangerous as they have insufficient knowledge, skill, and experience. So,Adults and childrens both need to take cars while riding an ATV. Therefore it is advicable that especially, childrens should strictly follow safety rules of riding an ATV for sale.
Children should be taught that an ATV is not a toy and should be operated with care and with safety in mind. They should be made aware of all the safety rules and never allowed to ride without supervision. If children realize how dangerous ATV’s can be and what they must do to stay safe, they will be at a much lower risk of injury.
The best thing you can do for your child before they are allowed to ride is send them to an approved ATV training course. Many places require riders under 16 to take a training course before they can legally ride which is a good idea anyway even if your area does not require it. You should attend the training course with your child so that you are also familiar with ATV safety and can enforce the safety rules your child learned.
Another important point that should be taken in mind is that correct ATV size should be choosen. Children should never ride an adult sized ATV, as they are usually too large for them to comfortably operate and increase the likely hood of injury. If you are going to purchase your child an ATV make sure you get a youth sized ATV that is not too large for your child. You should also consider the engine size as a more powerful engine means a faster ATV. Children should only drive an ATV that they can handle.
Wearing appropriate safety gear is also an important part of ATV safety. Children should always wear helmets, gloves, goggles, long pants and a long sleeved shirt. Most places require helmet use by law but even if they do not a helmet should always be worn. Using safety gear will prevent many injuries that can occur when riders fall. Make sure that the safety equipment you purchase for your child fits properly and is of high quality. You should make sure that the safety gear your child uses is rated for ATV use.
The last thing you should always do to keep your child safe, is to inspect their ATV before each use. Teach your child how to inspect their ATV as well and you can then both make sure it stays in good working condition and will not break or malfunction during use. If you and your child follow these safety tips, your child’s journey with ATV will be safe and enjoyable.

The all terrain vehicles are small motorized vehicles devised especially for off-road usage. These hardy vehicles are designed to take on difficult terrains are becoming increasingly popular nowadays. It may be mentioned that motorcycles, jeeps - land rovers and similar other vehicles capable of off road usage are available too but the all terrain vehicles are specialized to especially take over all kinds of rough terrain. The all terrain vehicles or ATVs as they are called are used for pleasure purpose, for hunting and for work or travel on off road sites. The ATVs are also called four wheelers ATV or quads. However, some models of ATVs also have 6 or 8 wheels. The all terrain vehicles come in a variety of makes, models and sizes.
All terrain vehicles may be very basic with skid steering, balloon tires and no suspension. Again there are sophisticated models too featuring track conversion systems for use on a variety of terrain conditions for all seasons. Using these you can get around just any terrain and at any time of the year braving all odds. Besides, it also enables carrying out a number of activities effectively in punishing conditions which were hitherto unthinkable.
The utility models of ATVs are appropriate for rangeland projects. The four by four units of ATVs provides good grip over rugged terrain while automatic transmission simplifies operation. Again, the two by four ATV units with 250-300 cc four stroke engines are easier to maneuver over long periods of operations at slow speeds like while spraying.
The ATVs promise you fun-filled joyous rides. Yet it is advisable to avoid excess speed, difficult terrain and steep slopes to whatever extent possible. This is to be especially noted in case extra equipment is loaded on the ATV unit. The six wheeler ATV or eight wheeler ATVs are considered to be safer on steep slopes.
While on an all terrain vehicle remember to use the safety equipment and wear a helmet. Also never forget to carry an electric air pump and tire-plug kit with tire sealant . These will come of use in repairing flat tires in difficult uninhabited terrain. Upon duly adopting the safety measures suggested by the all terrain vehicle manufacturers you can expect to get the best maneuverability on difficult terrain by riding an all terrain vehicle of choice.

ATV, the recognized abbreviation for “all-terrain vehicle“, includes any types of small, open, motorized tricycle/buggy primarily designed for off-road riding and carrying just one person - the driver. Riding an ATV has been likened to riding an ordinary motorcycle, with the exception that they have extra wheels to provide the rider with extra stability at slower speeds.
Although the exact date is not known, the first ever ATV, designed with six wheels, was introduced to the public somewhere around the 1950s. However, this was improved by Honda producing the first ever three-wheel all-terrain vehicle, made famous when it was featured in the 1971 James Bond Movie - “Diamonds Are Forever”.
Quickly following the release of three-wheel ATVs, various other configurations were designed for recreational use. These improved models offered big balloon tires, but no mechanical suspension. It wasn’t until the early 1980s that ATVs with lower tires and suspension were introduced.
The ATV quickly became a favorite mode of travel for US and Canadian hunters. This popularity was largely due to its ability to travel on terrain which other kinds of vehicles could not even consider crossing.
Aside from their recreational use, the release of the Honda ATC250R in 1981 led to sports models of ATV becoming even more popular. This model incorporated an impressive engine placement, full suspension, 5-speed transmission and stunning design. Truly a fun vehicle rather than a purposeful one.
Suzuki is renowned for developing the four-wheel models of high-performance all-terrain vehicles. Since Suzuki introduced the very first ATV for beginners in 1983, it has continuously produced a variety of Four-wheeler ATVs for both beginners and experienced riders alike. Other leaders in ATV production include Yamaha and Kawasaki.
During the 1980s, a variety of safety issues were raised regarding the three-wheel all-terrain vehicles. Because of this, all ATV manufacturers discontinued the production of three-wheel and switched to four-wheel models. Six-wheel models are also available, but these all-terrain vehicles contain a small dump bed and an additional set of wheels that effectively increases load capacity.

All terrain vehicles or ATV is a general term applied on vehicles with three or four low-pressure tires, including amphibious ones. They are designed to travel on inhospitable terrain, and so they are sturdy, stable and supposed to be, safe for rough and rugged ground. However, sturdy as they may be, all terrain vehicles should be operated only by those qualified and skilled enough to do so.
How to Operate an All Terrain Vehicle Driving
• Get acquainted with all terrain vehicles first. Learn as many things as possible about these fascinating, tough machines. Surf the net, read the manuals and plough through magazines about them. Be sure to get to know and ask people who have actually used an ATV.
• Get use to the feel of driving first. First, observe how ATV drivers navigate the rough terrain. Ask them questions if you want. Try seating in one and imagine how you would control it when it is in motion. Do not try to go to really rugged terrain at once. Try the gentler, more manageable terrains in the beginning. Also, do not get on a three-wheel ATV at once. The four-wheel models are more stable and best for beginners. Learn to crawl before you walk.
• Get professional instruction. An all terrain driving instructor can help you learn and master driving an all terrain vehicle. There are also lectures about ATVs which you can attend. You can get reliable recommendations from ATV magazines.
All Terrain Vehicle Driving - Things to Consider
• Your first consideration if you want to drive an all terrain vehicle would be safety. Make sure that you are properly protected from any bump or spill that will most likely occur. Helmets, sturdy shoes, jackets and eye protection should be worn when you are driving an ATV. Injuries and deaths are not uncommon among ATV users.
• Second, you must be skilled and strong enough to control this powerful machine. They come with no suspension, except that offered by the tires. They also weigh up to 600 pounds so they are quite difficult to control. You are most likely to be tossed and bumped in all directions and strength to withstand this, and to control the wheel, are absolutely necessary.
• Third, never jeopardize the life of other people by attempting to drive an all terrain vehicle under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Moreover, never let a passenger ride with you especially if you are not that experienced. Most of these vehicles are designed to take on just one person - the driver. If you have to, check with the ATV manufacturer if a passenger is allowed.
ATVs are for the adventurous, rugged type of people who love the challenge of controlling and mastering a powerful machine. It is not for the timid or the weak. But bravery without any ounce of precaution is still quite dangerous. You can enjoy all terrain vehicles but be wise enough to acquire the necessary skill before driving them.

There is an ATV safety crisis in America today, and it poses a great threat to the health and well being of our nation’s children. All-terrain vehicles (ATVs) were first made available in the United States in the early 1970’s, and have become increasingly popular ever since. At first glance, ATVs may seem harmless; however the number of ATV-related injuries and deaths continues to rise with their popularity. Over 136,000 Americans suffer ATV-related injuries and deaths ever year and over one-third of the victims are children under 16 years of age. Despite the increasing epidemic, ATV manufacturers continue to market bigger, faster, and more dangerous ATVs for children.
ATVs have been available in the United States for approximately 40 years. They are three- or four- wheel motorized machines specifically designed for off-road travel. ATVs are intended for single occupant use and are characterized as an open chassis or frame, which travels on large, low-pressure tires, and uses handlebars for steering. Three-wheel machines have not been manufactured since 1988, however many still remain in use. ATV engines range from 49cc to 950cc and can travel at speeds well above 70 miles per hour.
ATV manufacturers were selling as many as 600,000 three- and four-wheel ATVs every year in the United States. As ATV sales continued to rise, dramatic increases in ATV accidents (http://www.bestattorney.com) followed. The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) responded to the safety crisis by negotiating a Consent Decree with ATV manufacturers in which they agreed, among other things, to five major elements (http://www.cpsc.gov/library/atv2005.pdf):
• ATV manufacturers agreed to halt production of three-wheelers ATVs.
• ATV manufacturers would offer safety training to all new ATV owners.
• ATV manufacturers would recommend adult-sized ATVs only for those ages 16 and older.
• ATV manufacturers would label all ATVs with warnings, instructing purchasers that children should not ride adult-size ATVs.
• ATV manufacturers would recommend ATV engine sizes according to age: ATVs with an engine greater than 70cc should be used only by children 12 and older, and ATVs with an engine greater than 90cc should be used only by those 16 and older.

Of course if you are not comfortable with the idea of buying any goods from the internet, you can also use the internet to find ATV dealers that are located near you. Some of these sites will show you the ATV dealers that are located not only in your neighborhood but also in your city and in the state that you live in. These sites will let you go the web sites of these dealers so that you can find out what types of ATVs are sold in that establishment.

The main thing that you must do is to take your time and select an ATV that will be suitable for your life and what you will be expecting from this ATV work wise. Also you will need to investigate the possibility of getting used ATVs if the various ATVs in the showrooms are out of your budget.
