Tanker Crash on HWY 20

Written on December 11, 2007 – 3:12 am | by admin |

this weather is reeking havoc on the roads as well. It was a close call earlier today, when a semi and a tanker truck collided on Highway 20, five miles west of Reed’s dairy.

James Vanbeek, truck driver: “Just a bad deal. Bad roads. He was driving too close.”

So close in fact that when This truck was slowing down for a car that was running out of gas…

Vanbeek: “This other truck couldn’t see me or what and plowed into the back of me.”

The truck slid yards down the icy highway…while the tanker carrying what at the time seemed two trailers full of gas toppled over and slid down an embankment. Hazmat teams were called in, just to be safe…

Paul Summers, ISP Trooper: “When those tip over, they should hold but if it’s punctured then we could have a hazmat spill.”
